Kristen Wiig Biography: Age, Husband, Children, Movies & SNL

If you grew up watching Saturday Night Live in the late 2000s, you probably remember Kristen Wiig as the person behind Gilly, the Target Lady, and a dozen tiny character tics that made sketches hard to watch without grinning. She went on to co-write and star in Bridesmaids, a film that earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay (Creative Artists Agency (talent agency bio)).

Children: 2 (twins) (People (celebrity news outlet)) ·
Spouse: Avi Rothman (E! Online (entertainment news)) ·
Famous for: Saturday Night Live (Wikipedia (collaborative encyclopedia)) ·
Notable film: Bridesmaids (2011) (Apple TV (streaming service bio))

Eight facts, one pattern: Wiig’s public biography is unusually stable — one birth date, one long SNL run, one headline movie — while her professional range keeps expanding.

What made Kristen Wiig famous?

Wiig’s fame starts with Saturday Night Live. She joined the cast in 2005, stayed through 2012 across 137 episodes, created recurring characters like Gilly and the Target Lady, and earned four Primetime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series during that run (Television Academy (industry association)). That is the stretch most people picture when they hear her name.

How old is Kristen Wiig supposed to be in Bridesmaids?

• The cited filmographies do not state an in-story age for Wiig’s character.
• What the record does show is that Bridesmaids became the breakout moment of her post-SNL career.

What are some of Kristen Wiig’s best movies?

• Bridesmaids (2011) — listed in her filmography as the film that followed her SNL run (Wikipedia (collaborative encyclopedia))
• The Martian (2015) and Ghostbusters (2016) — both covered in her Britannica biography (Encyclopaedia Britannica (reference publisher))
• The Skeleton Twins, The Diary of a Teenage Girl, and Downsizing — frequently listed among her later film roles (Wikipedia (collaborative encyclopedia))

The implication: SNL supplied the recognition, but Bridesmaids gave Wiig a different kind of credibility — that of a writer-star who could carry a movie rather than a sketch.

How many children does Kristen Wiig have?

Wiig has two children, twins, with her husband Avi Rothman. E! Online’s coverage tracks the family from the couple’s early relationship through their parenting years (E! Online (entertainment news)).

How old are Kristen Wiig’s twins?

• Their exact birth date has not been published in the cited sources.
• Reports link the twins to Wiig’s relationship with Rothman, which began around 2013 (E! Online (entertainment news)).

Did Kristen Wiig have a baby in 2013?

• No source in the research notes reports a birth in 2013.
• The confirmed family timeline puts Wiig and Rothman together around 2013, with the twins’ birth occurring afterward (E! Online (entertainment news)).

The pattern: Wiig treats her children’s exact ages as private information, and the outlets that cover her family rarely push past that boundary.

Who is Kristen Wiig’s husband?

Wiig is married to Avi Rothman, an actor and writer. People’s coverage has followed the couple since they were first linked, and the relationship is the basis for most reporting about her family life (People (celebrity news outlet)).

How old is Kristen Wiig’s husband?

• Rothman’s exact age is not stated in the cited sources.
• His professional profile is described as acting and writing work, with no official birth date given in the materials reviewed.

What this means: for the most part, the press treats Rothman as Wiig’s partner, not a separate celebrity, so biographical data on him stays thin.

How old is Kristen Wiig now?

Wiig was born on August 22, 1973. Encyclopaedia Britannica lists her age as 51 on January 1, 2025, with her next birthday falling on August 22, 2025 (Encyclopaedia Britannica (reference publisher)).

Where does Kristen Wiig live?

• Birthplace: Canandaigua, New York, as listed in the profile table above.
• Current residence details are not confirmed in the cited profiles.

Why this matters: “where she is from” is well documented, but “where she lives now” is not something her public profiles disclose.

What movies has Kristen Wiig been in?

After Bridesmaids, Wiig moved between studio franchises, independent films, and voice work. Her filmography includes The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, The Skeleton Twins, The Diary of a Teenage Girl, The Martian, Ghostbusters, Downsizing, Mother!, and Wonder Woman 1984 (Wikipedia (collaborative encyclopedia)).

Who has Kristen Wiig voiced?

• Animated credits include Despicable Me and The Secret Life of Pets, according to her IMDb filmography (IMDb (film and TV database)).
• Voice work runs alongside her live-action film roles rather than replacing them.

The takeaway: Wiig’s filmography is broader than the SNL highlight reel suggests, and the animated roles keep her visible to a younger audience.

Timeline signal

Six dates, one through-line: Wiig spent the first act of her career proving herself inside an ensemble, then used that foundation to write, produce, and land bigger film roles.

Why this matters: the timeline shows a deliberate transition — from an ensemble player in her late 20s to a writer-star by her late 30s.

What’s confirmed, what’s unclear

Confirmed facts

• Born August 22, 1973 (Biography.com (actor bio archive))
• SNL cast member from 2005 to 2012 (Television Academy (industry association))
• Bridesmaids earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay (Creative Artists Agency (talent agency bio))
• Has two children, twins, with Avi Rothman (People (celebrity news outlet))

What’s unclear

• The exact birth date of the twins has not been published.
• Current residence details are not confirmed in the cited profiles.
• Her pre-SNL Groundlings years are reported without exact dates (Wikipedia (collaborative encyclopedia))
• Rothman’s exact age is not listed in the cited sources.

The trade-off: Wiig has kept her family and home life private enough that verified facts stop at the basics — and that is exactly where careful reporting should stop too.

Where Wiig goes from here

For comedy fans who only know Wiig from her SNL years, the choice is clear: follow her post-2012 work — especially Bridesmaids, The Martian, and the animated voice roles — to see the full arc. The actress who spent years disappearing into characters now has enough screenwriting and producing credits to keep reinventing her own lane. Stick with the filmography, not just the nostalgia, or you risk thinking her best work ended in 2012.
