How do I check if I’m due a cold weather payment?
The quickest way is to use the DWP cold weather payment postcode checker on GOV.UK. Enter your postcode to see if your area has been activated during the current winter period (1 November to 31 March). You can also check by phone if you do not have internet access.
When will the £140 cold weather payment be paid?
If your area triggers a payment, the £140 sum is usually paid automatically within 14 working days. There is no need to apply. Payments are sent directly to the bank account you use for other benefits, such as Pension Credit or Universal Credit. If you have not received it after 14 days, contact the Pension Service or Jobcentre Plus.
What if my area has triggered a payment but I haven’t received it?
First, use the cold weather payment checker UK tool on GOV.UK to confirm the trigger. If it shows you are due a payment and 14 working days have passed, call the DWP’s helpline or visit your local Jobcentre Plus office.
Can I get a payment if I live in Scotland?
No. The cold weather payment DWP scheme does not apply in Scotland. Instead, the Scottish Government runs a separate Winter Heating Payment. You should check eligibility on the Scottish benefits website if you live north of the border.
